Alexandra B. Ribeiro

Electro based technologies (EBS), in the scope of circular economy, studying the removal of inorganic and organic contaminants from e.g. wastewater, sludge, soil, mine waste, fly ash, aiming the valorization of the solids and the liquids (electrolytes), with critical raw materials recovering. Exploitation of the self-produced hydrogen by the EBS has been exploited, having 2 international patents pending.

Study and development of new sample preparation and new analytical methodologies mainly using chromatographic techniques (e.g. SPE, SPME, GC, GCxGC, HPLC and GC/MS) to be applied to the characterization of complex biological and environmental matrices, environmental and pollutants analysis, chemical ecology, pest management and remediation processes monitorization.

Marco Gomes da Silva

Development of accurate, less time consuming, efficient, reliable and sustainable analytical methods – GC-FID and FPD, GC/MS/MS, GCxGC/TOFMS, GC-O, HPLC-DAD, FLD and RI, for the identification/quantification of organic compounds in complex matrices, e.g. food matrices. Enantioselective GC is a target as well. Sample preparation methods, LLE, DLLME, SPE and SPME. Stationary phases for MIPs are also developed as new sample preparation strategies.

Electro-chemical based technologies, water management, environmental pollution and critical raw materials in the context of circular economy. Remediation technologies developing “tailored-made” and innovative solutions fulfilling the expectations of the scientific community, industry, and society. PI in projects related to environmental remediation, pollution assessment and circular economy.

Paula Guedes

Development of technological solutions based on electro-chemical processes for pollution control and critical raw materials recovery, directed to a circular economy approach. The pollutants and electro-chemical processes impact on microbiota are also a focus. Development of sample preparation and analytical for targeted and untargeted analysis of organic compounds in environmental and biological matrices.

Study and development of new sample preparation and new analytical methodologies mainly using chromatographic techniques (e.g. SPE, SPME, GC, GCxGC, HPLC and GC/MS) to be applied to the characterization of complex biological and environmental matrices, environmental and pollutants analysis, chemical ecology, pest management.

Joana Almeida

Research topics are focused on the electrodialytic technology development for critical raw materials recovery and harmful compounds removal from environmental matrices. Under a circular economy perspective, further reuses of secondary resources in different sectors and life cycle assessment approaches to determine, compare and optimize technological processes are also studied.
